Gordon N. Ray, a graduate of Indiana University, was closely associated with the life and work of William Makepeace Thackeray. His four volume edition of the Letters and private papers appeared in 1945-1946 and his two volume biography in 1954-1955. From 1963 to 1985 Ray was president of the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation. Greenway, Cornelius

Cornelius Greenway (1896-1968) immigrated to the United States from Holland in 1914. During World War I he served with the U.S. Army in France and received the Purple Heart and the Service Medal. He graduated from Tufts University with a BA in 1925 and an STB in 1928. He was ordained to the Universalist ministry in 1926 and served the parishes of the Universalist Church of Taunton and the Universalist Church of the Redemption in Boston, Massachusetts.
